The Riviera project is a custom Calacatta marble countertop and bathroom vanity installation for a residential interior in Pacific Palisades. The material brings clean white and soft grey veining — present without being overstated — that works well across both kitchen and bathroom applications in the same home. Calacatta marble is a refined natural stone with a white to warm ivory background and soft grey veining that varies across the slab face. In residential applications, it brings a quality that reads as considered and permanent rather than decorative — the kind of surface that holds its presence in a well-designed interior without competing with it. For kitchen countertops and bathroom vanities in the same residence, it allows a consistent material language across the home.
For the Riviera project, each slab was reviewed for veining direction and tone before fabrication began. West Coast Custom Stonework planned the layout to make the most of the stone's natural character at each surface, whether read across a full countertop run or on the more intimate scale of a bathroom vanity top.
Marble requires careful fabrication planning at every stage. Field measurements establish the exact dimensions each piece needs to meet, and slab layout decisions follow — accounting for veining direction, seam placement relative to the stone's natural movement, and the visual relationship between adjacent pieces. Edge profiles were selected and cut to complement the design of each space, then polished in-shop to a consistent finished surface.
Sink openings for both kitchen and vanity applications were cut and finished to specification. Seam locations were planned in-shop before cutting began so that the installation could proceed cleanly on-site. Marble's surface quality is unforgiving of imprecision at installation — the fabrication work that happens in the shop is what makes the finished result look effortless in the space.
The finished Riviera surfaces bring a consistent, refined material presence through the kitchen and bathrooms of a Pacific Palisades residence. Calacatta marble is a durable natural stone when fabricated and installed with appropriate attention to support, seams, and edge detail — and the finished surfaces reflect that care. The countertops and vanity tops read as part of the architecture of the home, not additions to it.
