The Noir is a custom dark quartzite kitchen installation in Los Angeles built around Titanium — also known as Cosmic Black — quartzite, a natural stone with a deep black and charcoal ground, bold movement, and warm metallic tones that shift across the slab face. Titanium quartzite — marketed under several names including Cosmic Black — is a natural quartzite defined by its depth of colour and movement. The ground reads as near-black with charcoal and grey shifts, crossed by bold veining that carries warm metallic tones through the surface. It is a dramatic material, and it performs differently in a kitchen than lighter stones — the surface absorbs rather than reflects ambient light, and the movement in the stone becomes more pronounced as you move across it. In a dark kitchen design, that quality is the point. Slab layout was planned before fabrication began to map veining direction across the countertop run and into the waterfall island transition, so the stone's movement reads as continuous and deliberate across all surfaces.

Every cut was planned relative to the material's natural character — where the veining runs, where it would meet a seam, and how each surface would read in the finished kitchen. Dark quartzite at countertop scale is a material that rewards that level of planning and makes the absence of it visible.
The waterfall island requires the quartzite surface to turn from horizontal to vertical in a continuous plane on each side of the island. On a dark, reflective stone like Titanium quartzite, the mitered joint where the countertop top meets the vertical waterfall panel is more visible than it would be on a lighter, more matte surface. The angle of the cut, the tightness of the joint, and the consistency of the polished edge all read clearly against a deep dark stone. Seam placement was planned relative to the veining direction so the stone's movement flows through the mitered transition — a seam that interrupts the veining on a bold stone like this is not recoverable once set. Edge polishing and island support conditions were specified in-shop and confirmed before installation began.
The integrated kitchen sink was fabricated from the same Titanium quartzite slab as the surrounding countertop, maintaining the continuous dark stone surface from counter plane into the basin. On a dark quartzite, the sink transition and basin interior are highly visible — edge geometry, polish consistency inside the basin, and the transition radius from counter to sink all read clearly against the depth of the stone. Those details are set entirely at the fabrication stage. Field measurements established the exact sink position and plumbing conditions, and the finished piece was delivered to site ready to install without adjustment.
The full-height quartzite slab backsplash carries the Titanium material from the countertop surface to the upper wall in a continuous vertical plane, connecting the countertop, island, and wall into a single stone composition. Custom stone shelves fabricated from the same quartzite extend that composition further — the shelves read as part of the stone surface rather than objects placed against it, and their position relative to the backsplash and countertop was planned to maintain visual continuity across the kitchen. Transitions at walls, appliance surrounds, the sink, and cabinet lines were all detailed to close cleanly so the dark stone surface holds without interruption across the kitchen.
