A waterfall island requires the stone surface to turn from horizontal to vertical in a continuous, uninterrupted plane on each side of the island. The quality of that transition is determined at the fabrication stage — specifically at the mitered joint where the countertop top and the vertical waterfall panel meet. Both pieces are cut at opposing angles and joined so the seam is as tight and visually minimal as the material allows. Seam placement was planned relative to the quartzite's natural veining so the movement reads through the transition rather than stopping at it.
Edge polishing, island support conditions, and the weight distribution of the finished stone across the cabinet base were all specified before installation. The finished sink was polished to a consistent surface standard inside the basin and across the counter transition. An integrated stone sink is one of the more exacting fabrication tasks in residential stonework — there is no separate fixture to adjust or replace if the dimensions are not right. The quality of the finished piece is set entirely at the fabrication stage.
