The Mar Vista project is a full kitchen and bathroom stone fabrication and installation for a residential interior in Mar Vista, Los Angeles. The kitchen scope includes quartzite countertops, a waterfall island with mitered edges, a full-height quartzite slab backsplash, and a custom integrated stone sink. The bathroom scope covers large-format marble shower slab walls, a marble bathtub surround, and bathroom stone vanity work. The quartzite countertops and waterfall island are the centrepiece of the Mar Vista kitchen. The waterfall island carries the stone surface vertically down both sides in a continuous plane, and the full-height quartzite slab backsplash extends the material from the countertop to the upper wall — creating a kitchen where the stone is the architecture of the space, not a finish applied to it. Slab layout was planned to maintain veining continuity from the horizontal countertop surface through the vertical waterfall panels and across the backsplash, so the natural movement in the quartzite reads as intentional at every surface.
The custom integrated sink was fabricated from the same quartzite slab as the surrounding countertop, presenting a continuous stone surface from counter plane into the basin without visible transition. Waterfall island fabrication is centred on the mitered joint — the point where the horizontal countertop top and the vertical waterfall panel meet. Both pieces are cut at opposing angles and joined so the seam is as tight and visually minimal as the material allows. That joint is planned, cut, and polished in-shop before the stone reaches the site. Field measurements establish the exact dimensions each piece requires, and slab layout maps the position of every cut relative to the quartzite's natural veining so movement reads through the mitered transition rather than stopping at it. Seam placement across the full countertop and backsplash run was planned in the same exercise, resolved before fabrication began.
The integrated sink fabrication required its own set of decisions — basin geometry, drain position, wall and basin thickness, transition radius from counter to sink, and the polished finish inside the basin and across the counter transition. An integrated stone sink has no separate fixture to adjust after installation. Every dimension is set in the shop, and the finished piece is delivered to site ready to install. The precision that makes a waterfall island and an integrated sink both look effortless in the finished kitchen is entirely the product of shop work done before anything is set on-site.

Large-format marble shower panels replace tiled surfaces with continuous slabs that reduce grout lines and present the stone's natural veining across the full wall height without interruption. Wall panel layout was planned to maintain veining direction and tonal consistency across adjacent panels — at shower scale, a mismatch in stone orientation between panels is visible and difficult to correct after installation. Fixture openings for plumbing penetrations were cut and finished in-shop. Transitions at the glass enclosure, tub deck, vanity, and shower threshold were all detailed to close cleanly against the adjacent finishes.
Bathroom slab installations carry different demands than kitchen work. Waterproofing conditions at the substrate level, the relationship between the stone installation and the water management system behind it, and the way slab panels meet at internal corners and horizontal surfaces all affect long-term performance. These conditions are addressed at the planning and installation stage — not resolved after the stone is on the wall. The marble bathtub surround and vanity stonework were installed with the same attention to substrate conditions, transitions, and edge detail as the shower panels, so the bathroom reads as a complete stone installation rather than a room where stone was applied to some surfaces and not others.
